Engineer designer Elena Karlova, owner, on creating interiors for creative people
The interiors designed and realised by Eclectic Design stand out with their specific way of creating the feel of uniqueness, cosiness and harmony. The studio's owner and designer, engineer Elena Karlova, knows what she wants to achieve – spaces that are a pleasure to inhabit, and realises them with the amazing skill to translate the dreams of the interior’s ihnabitants into designer's solutions.
Both the company's name and its realised projects demonstrate your creative fluency in different styles. How do you identify the right approach for each space?
My favourite saying is "The house is made of bricks and the home is made of the people who live in it!"
I used this foundation to build upon my skill to listen carefully to our clients. To listen two times more than I talk. I listen carefully to their desires, dreams, emotions and specificities in order to create the best possible interior. Then my client says: Yes, this is my space! My orbit! My Home!
Do you recognise a theme or an approach that runs as a red line in your projects?
Light, harmony, functionality and personal style. Spaces organised with smile and love in order to inspire smile and love. This is my approach in each project.
What is the most important thing that you aim for when creating an interior?
The creation of an interior with its individual charm and soul is a magic that inspires me each day to create at an even larger scope. The most important thing for me is to create interiors immune to the changes of time, not because of its modern aesthetics, but because of the emotion, the feel and the spirit that it is charged with.
Do you have a favourite interior style?
Yes, I do. It will hardly be surprising that it is eclectics, as the name of our design studio. Eclectics allows the imagination to combine common sense and fantasy, harmony and chaos, traditional and modern style.
Eclectics does not mean lack of order, but an amalgamation of epochs, styles, shapes, colours, textures and models. The eclectic style is suitable for creative people who love beautiful things and domestic cosiness. Such people do not want to be framed by a single style.
Eclectics is also a good option for people who dislike monotony. Even more, eclectic style provides incredible opportunities to use the interior to achieve different goals. It could be a favourite haven, an island of tranquillity, a place to recharge one's energy. It could even provoke us to upgrade, nurture and develop one or more qualities in ourselves.
