Taulia is a FinTech company founded in 2009. Taulia is headquartered in San Francisco, California with various locations across the United States and offices in London, England; Dusseldorf, Germany; and Sofia, Bulgaria.
Tauila delivers innovative early payment, financing and payment solutions that enable its customers to achieve their working capital and cash management goals. Some of the smartest brands in the world rely on Taulia, including Coca-Cola Bottling, Pfizer, Hallmark, John Deere, and many other Fortune 500 companies from various industries. Taulia opened its office in Bulgaria 4 years ago. Today, 50 people work in it. Yana Parvanova, an Engineering Manager at Taulia Bulgaria, reveals more.
How does Taulia innovate and transform the financial environment?
Our business domain is Supply Chain Financing. We improve the way big companies interact with their suppliers.
Our platform and services facilitate early payments on invoices. This helps large companies maintain healthy supply chains and achieve their financial goals. At the same time, it provides more control on cash flow for the suppliers – which are often small or medium size companies.
The concept of early payments is not a new one. Taulia excels in making them reliable and hassle-free. We also provide a great deal of flexibility for both buyers and suppliers and help them tailor our services to achieve their goals.
Unlike traditional banks we are small and agile. We can afford experimenting with technology and business models to better capture market's needs and trends.
Why did Taulia choose Bulgaria?
Four years ago Taulia was still a fast growing startup.
Initially Taulia's clients were based in the US and at some point, time had come to expand on the European market.
Bulgaria offered skilled work force, low risk (as part of EU) and simpler logistics for European operations – in terms of regulations and geographical location.
What does Taulia's Sofia office do?
Largest teams in Sofia are Engineering, Support and Supplier Integration.
But we have members of almost all teams that exist in Taulia – including Professional Services, Data Analytics, Marketing and more.
What challenges does the company experience in Bulgaria?
As any other technology company in Bulgaria right now, we often struggle to hire quickly people with the required qualification and experience.
There's a lot of competition in the IT labor market and it can be hard to make the best people even consider a change.
I am happy that all hires in the last year in the Engineering department have been referrals by existing employees. It means a lot that people recommend Taulia to their friends as a good place to work and grow.
Being a part of international company spread around the globe can be both fun and challenging too. For example, one needs to be aware of cultural differences and adapt to time zones of their peers and teams they need to connect to.
On the other hand, we don't have much bureaucracy and heavy processes. Get-work-done attitude is a major driver and sense of humor is appreciated.
How does it feel to be a woman in the technology field nowadays?
My observations are that many women show their full potential in roles that favor holistic approach. In addition to ladies that occupy purely technical jobs in Taulia – like DevOps or QA engineers – we also have amazing project managers, product owners, implementation consultants etc.
It is a fact of life that when people start families and have kids their priorities and life styles change. Even in developed countries this affects women to a greater extent.
We do our best to help Taulians achieve healthy work/life balance. Our working hours are flexible and we employ very liberal working-from-home policies. Plus, spouses and kids are always welcome to the office.
