An interview with Venelin Yordanov, Executive Director
Plovdiv Tech Park JSC is Bulgaria's first entrepreneurship park with 100% private capital. It has the ambition to popularise business culture in this country and to offer IT education and opportunities for development that fit the most current trends. One of its projects is the establishment of Mahatma Gandhi International Higher School of Informatics and E-Leadership that awaits accreditation. We talked to Venelin Yordanov, Executive Director of Plovdiv Tech Park.
What is the mission of Plovdiv Tech Park?
Plovdiv Tech Park develops the national and regional entrepreneurship ecosystem by creating new informational resources and stimulating technological progress and innovations. With its incubator it decreases the entrepreneurial risk for startups, and with its accelerator it provides financial support for scalable technological startups. We provide mentorship and consultation on creating new companies and development of existing ones within the Park. We work towards establishing and developing contacts with companies and other agents outside the region to help the local entrepreneurship ecosystem.
What is the role of Plovdiv Tech Park's educational complex?
Its goal is to improve the quality of education and to satisfy the growing need of highly qualified professionals who are in high demand for the digital transformation of businesses. The complex includes the Professional Private European College of Innovative Technology, the Blagovest Sendov Informatics High-School, the IIHT training centre, the IT Akademia software company, the Institute for Informatics and Innovative Technologies, the Mahatma Gandhi International Higher School of Informatics and E-Leadership and the Academy of E-Leadership and Professors' Improvement.
Mahatma Gandhi Higher School is something really new. Tell us more about it.
As a part of the project, together with our partners from the Indian Institute for Hardware Technologies at Bangalore, we have a number of educational innovations. The Park will participate with its infrastructure – a research centre, an incubator and a business accelerator, an experimentarium, a lab, a centre for e-trade, a blockchain centre and others. We will be the first in Bulgaria to offer a master's programme in e-leadership. The innovation also includes a master's programme in AI. Our IIHT training centre has purchased an IT courses franchise from Bangalore. With the Higher School we will build the first technological bridge between Plovdiv and Bangalore, with the participation of Indian organisations in our incubator and business accelerator. For students there will be a fund for financing startups, in partnership with Ethic Finance. A novelty for Bulgarian higher education will be the centre for digital and dopamine detox, in partnership with Orpheus Club Wellness. Another innovation are the mixed Bulgarian-Indian team of professors, the business model for funding of the higher school and the platforms for exchange of scientific and academic information and students' professional realisation via business models. The project also includes application of AI and blockchain as a part of the platform economy.
