The American English Academy (AEA) in Sofia began the new school year with full classes of happy children eager to learn from the motivated and enthusiastic teachers in inspirational purpose-built premises and following a curriculum specifically designed to combine academical achievement and creativity.

Established in 1992, the school is among the best educational institutions in Bulgaria. It offers a U.S. standards-based educational program from Pre-Kindergarten (age 3) to Grade 12. The curriculum is in English, student-centered, and with a wide range of after-school activities and sports. The school's Dual Language Program is an innovative way to provide local students with education in accordance to American and Bulgarian educational standards and is for students who aim to become fluent in English and to continue their studies in Bulgaria or abroad.

The professionals at the AEA are dedicated to provide an environment that is safe, supports critical thinking, and invites a sharing of ideas. Their focus is to help students meet their potential by creating opportunities for individual discovery and construction of knowledge.

The AEA is accredited by premier American and international accreditation agencies: Accreditation International, the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and the Middle States Association – Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS). The Dual Language Program of AEA is delivered through the adjunct Abraham Lincoln School of Sofia which is fully-accredited by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education.

The school is located in a purpose-built campus at the feet of the Lozen Mountain that won the 2015 Building of the Year Award in the category of educational facilities. The campus spreads on 7,400 square meters and has some of the finest school facilities in Bulgaria. Classrooms are designed to motivate and enhance student engagement and to foster communicative interaction between students and teachers. All classrooms are equipped with Promethean Smartboards incorporating digital technologies into the learning process on a daily basis.

The school library includes a modern approach to its design and takes into account the recent trends in student study habits as well as reading atmosphere. Desktop computers are available for students' access to online resources such as electronic database systems for research and scholarly work.

The AEA cafeteria is a specious and well-lit area where both students and teachers have their meals. Each student is provided with freshly cooked on-site food prepared based on the daily health and diet requirements.
