From 4 to 6 May the fortress lives with the Cherven Medieval Camp festival. Authentic reconstructions of medieval Bulgarian clothes, jewellery, weapons and everyday objects enrich the stories about Medieval Bulgaria and the life of its people – not only kings and aristocrats, but also commoners and their days and holidays, entertainment, crafts, trade. Workshops, souvenirs, weapons and a medieval tavern bring life to the past, complimenting the exhibitions with artefacts from the collection of the History Museum in Ruse.
With its 16 churches, preserved tunnels to underground springs and 4-storey tower, Cherven Medieval Town is an important site of Bulgarian national memory and identity.
National archaeological reserve Cherven Medieval Town is an open air exhibition space of the Regional Museum of History in Ruse, www.museumruse.com.
