The founder of the practice, Attorney-at-Law Tsvetelina Angelova, graduated in Law in Bulgaria and later specialised in International Law and European Community Law at the University of Val de Marne – Paris XII. After graduating, she worked in a number of French institutions, including the Ministry of Finance. She has found her true calling in Bulgaria as the managing partner of the respected Angelova Attorneys at Law. There, she and her team provide high-quality legal services in areas such as corporate and commercial law, contracts, consumer protection, real estate, employment, insurance, litigation and arbitration, among others.

What inspired you to create your own legal practice focused on working with French clients and other foreigners in Bulgaria?

I was inspired by the idea of being a bridge between foreign clients and the Bulgarian legal and business environment. Many foreigners see opportunities in Bulgaria, but they often face difficulties related to the local regulatory framework, administrative procedures, and a different business culture.

This motivated me to create a practice that offers not only legal expertise, but also clarity, security, and trust. Working with French clients is a natural part of this direction, as it requires precision, good communication, and an understanding of the international context.

Another important factor is that I studied in France, and I can truly say that I have a deep affection for the country.

What are the main problems a foreigner faces when entering the Bulgarian market or already operating in it?

Most often, the challenges are related to the practical application of the law. This includes choosing the right legal structure, registering a company, tax matters, regulatory requirements, contracts, and administrative procedures. There is often also a language barrier, as well as uncertainty about how institutions operate and what local practices are.

For a foreign investor or entrepreneur, it is important to have a reliable local adviser who can help them navigate properly. Banking services are also a major challenge, as it is becoming increasingly difficult for foreigners to open bank accounts in Bulgaria.

How can you help them?

I assist clients from the very beginning of their project in Bulgaria – from choosing the appropriate structure and registering the company to drafting contracts, providing employment law advice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and offering ongoing legal support. I strive to provide not just legal analysis, but practical solutions tailored to the client's specific goals. For foreigners, it is especially important to have a lawyer who can explain not only the law, but also the local practice.

What are your most frequently requested services?

I most often work on company incorporation and structuring, commercial contracts, corporate and regulatory matters, administrative procedures, as well as issues related to the residence and employment of foreigners in Bulgaria, including obtaining residence certificates for foreigners. French clients often seek comprehensive legal support when they are starting or expanding their activities in the country.

Do you also work with individual clients?

Yes, I also work with individual clients. Most often, these matters relate to residence, immigration procedures, employment relationships, contracts, real estate, and general legal advice when settling in Bulgaria. For foreigners, personal and business matters are very often closely connected.
