The event was full with a lot of excitement and positive emotions
Over 200 guests attended the official opening of Denis Diderot School. These included children, parents, colleagues, friends and partners of ProCredit Bank who arrived from all over the world to show their support and to celebrate the beginning of Denis Diderot School.
The school is located among nature and spreads on 6,000 sq.m in the beautiful town of Bankya. There, children are free to grow surrounded by clean air, to study in the open and to explore nature. The building of Denis Diderot School is entirely up to the modern requirements of energy efficiency; its architecture uses plenty of natural materials: wood, stone and glass. The ozone system reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
The guests watched the incredible performances of the children who have attended the school's Summer Programme. They showed what they learnt about the depths of the sea in the past week. The show also included performances from Gorna Banya Folklore Ensemble and the girls of Mystic Dance Group.
Peter Slavov's welcome speech marked the celebration's culmination and touched the hearts of all guests.
Denis Diderot School was born thanks to the efforts of a large team who share the same ideology, values and goals. These were declared in the opening speech as well:
At Denis Diderot School we will all learn to be hard-working. To be responsible. To be tolerant. To ask and then listen to one another. To be frank and honest. To respect one another. To criticise and to accept being criticised. To ask questions and to question their answers. To search for the truth, and to read."
The old school bell, a symbol of Bulgarian school and education, was given to the children with a special message that made the speech final part:
We, the adults, owe you a school like Denis Diderot. We owe such a school to all children around the world. I would like you to accept this bell... Start with it a day when someone will learn how to write, to read, to draw. A day when someone will learn how to create, to discover and rediscover new worlds. A day when someone will learn to be hardworking, will learn freedom and peace.
And so, with this bell... while the world stands... forever and ever."
The event concluded with a tour of the school compound.
The guests visited all classrooms, the corridors, the sport centre, the libraries and all the spaces where children will have access to. This allowed parents and guests to immerse themselves in the school's atmosphere and to remember the time when they, too, were students.
