The Medical University of Plovdiv is one of the most successful academic institutions in our country. It was founded 75 years ago. The prestige of the Medical University of Plovdiv is a result of the continuous work of generations of wonderful and dedicated lecturers and the enthusiasm of its students. Our motto is "Dedicated to humanity." Our mission is to promote academic education and independent academic research, and to provide research-based higher education to students who will serve their country and humanity and will be open to society.
The University structure is harmonious: Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health, a Department of Languages and Specialized Training, and a Medical College.
Students from all over the world come here to study. About 800 highly competent lecturers, more than 460 of whom with Doctoral degrees train 6,561 students from all levels of medical education.
The University provides modern lecture halls, contemporary medical compounds for education, training in six University hospitals, laboratories, cosy dormitories, good canteens, sport facilities; and most of all, high-quality teaching that is based on multidisciplinary and broad-based scientific research.
The Library and Information centre at the Medical University of Plovdiv comprises of 5 libraries located on an area of 1,772 sq.m with 375 users seats, 75 of which equipped with computers. The collections hold more than 182,800 library items (physical and electronic): textbooks and handbooks, monographs, dissertations, reference books and periodicals in Bulgarian and other languages. The library has a modern digitizing studio equipped with CopiBook Open System (i2S), a storage server and a graphic station. The library services are carried out by an automated library system integrating RFID technology. There is a free Internet connection on the premises including Wi-Fi.
The Library and information centre provides 24/7 access to licensed online resources such as A.D.A.M Interactive Anatomy, AccessMedicine, AccessPharmacy, ScienceDirect, MEDLINE Complete, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, Scopus, Web of Science, SpringerLink (medical journals and protocols).
Guided by the principles of maximum effective theoretical and practical training and optimal prevention of coronavirus infection, we have succeeded in conducting lectures entirely in electronic synchronous format of communication.
The Medical Simulation Training Centre of the University with its high-tech manikins and the newest laparoscopic, arthroscopic and endoscopic simulators for virtual reality is the biggest and the most complex training centre for medical specialists in Bulgaria. It is also accredited as an American College of Surgeons Comprehensive Education Institute.
The Research Institute at Medical University of Plovdiv is focused on simulation-training technologies in medicine, translational neuroscience, molecular and regenerative medicine, innovative diagnostic methods, child neurodevelopment, patient safety in surgery, innovative technologies in dental medicine and pharmaceutical innovations for personalized medicine.
In 2013 the University was awarded the prize for Best University for its leading position in the field of education. The Medical University of Plovdiv has been granted the International Quality Certificate ISO 9001:2015; it is also a member of the European University Association and has signed collaboration agreements with 75 universities in Europe.
