PLOVDIV: EUROPE'S BEST DESTINATION FOR ROMANCE, WINE AND CULTURE
In 2022, Plovdiv, Europe's oldest living city, took the 4th place in the Best European Destination list of EuropeanBestDestinations.com, a leading website. Tourists from over 180 countries ranked Plovdiv first in three categories.
Best Romantic Destination
If you want to impress your loved one with a date at an interesting location in the city, have a walk along Old Plovdiv's picturesque streets. The Rowing Canal and the Padlock Bridge are another emblematic location in Plovdiv for people in love. Many couples spend their time together among the artistic alleys and the cosy cafés, beer halls and bars of Kapana district. Located at the city heart, the King Simeon Garden has been a preferred place for people in love since its creation, in 1892.
Best Wine Destination
Plovdiv and the region are a heaven for wine lovers. In Bulgaria's largest wine region thrive varieties such as Mavrud, Rubin, Plovdiv Malaga, Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot noir, Sauvignon blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Aligote and more. The city is also a starting point for exciting wine and food tours, and hosts thematic events such as the Vinaria International Exhibition of Vine-Growing and Wine Producing, the Wine and Gourmet event in May, the International Mavrud Day in October and the Young Wine Festival in November.
Best Cultural Destination
Plovdiv hosts many events and festivals of national and international importance, and in 2019 deservedly became European Capital of Culture. Plovdiv takes you on a trip back in time and allows you to get closer to impressive ancient monuments – a 1st century theatre, a 2nd century stadium, a forum with an odeon and valuable examples of Roman mosaic heritage exhibited at the Bishop's Basilica, the Small Basilica and other sites. The city pulsates with the spirit of the Bulgarian National Revival period that inhabits the magical Old Town and its beautiful and richly decorated mansions.
Ancient and eternal, artistic and modern, cosmopolitan and romantic, Plovdiv always gives you something new to discover!
