SANDRA BOSHNAKOVA: A WOMAN IN THE FACTORY

As the director of LMP-Bulgaria, she has built a team that achieves top results

The world of the global economy is complex and the products that we use in our everyday life and work are made thanks to intricate processes, engineering achievements and the precise manufacture of details whose very existence remains a mystery to most people.

LMP-Bulgaria is a company that is key for the development of a number of industrial production firms. The electromechanical and electromagnetic OEM products produced in its Plovdiv-based plant are key for industries in the fields of electromechanics, energy and automobile manufacturing.

LMP-Bulgaria was established in 2007 as a subdivision of LMP Group, an Italian company. Plovdiv was chosen because of its strategic location that allowed expanding the client base and the better and more timely service of local clients. Through its subsidiary company in Bulgaria, LMP Group successfully performs several key tasks: it offers quality products at competitive prices, it implements and develops industry knowledge and production experience, and provides flexibility and customisation through large R&D know-how.

Today, over 200 people work at LMP-Bulgaria, including 10 certified and experienced engineers. The work process is organised and structured according to the needs of each individual client. The organisation in Bulgaria also relies for help to the company's divisions in Italy and China.

LMP-Bulgaria offers to its clients processes that use extremely precise equipment for coil winding, welding, assembly, plastic overmolding, cabling, magnetic calibration, SMT and THT assembly, and a mechanical workshop.

Rather unexpectedly, the plant is managed by a... woman. As the director of LMP-Bulgaria, Sandra Boshnakova has set for herself the mission to create more jobs, and by doing this to create both professionals in the field and opportunities for their growth here, in Bulgaria.

A woman running a large factory. What was the most important thing that you had to do when you took this position to show to your team that you are a good manager?

I have been with LMP-Bulgaria since it was created. The first thing I had to do after I was trusted with this responsibility was to believe that I can be a good leader. I was and continue to be a leader first, not just an employer.

What was the biggest challenge that you had to deal with?

The Covid-19 pandemic.

How did you overcome it?

As everyone else. Each day was determined by the decisions I had made the day before, probably because I was following all the rules and measures imposed by the government and the healthcare authorities, and probably because I was scared. Everyone in my team trusted me with what I was doing. My colleagues supported me. This was how we, at LMP-Bulgaria, successfully dealt with the crisis.

Did the global supply chain crisis affect production in LMP-Bulgaria?

Of course. The raw materials prices increased and the deliveries would be delayed for months.

How did you deal with this challenge?

With a lot of hard work, communication and, most importantly, with the good organisation of the entire team.

Which LMP-Bulgaria product or development makes you particularly proud?

I am mostly proud of the fact that I managed to create a team of professionals who grew in the company.

Why do clients choose partnership with you?

Because of trust, good communication and interrelation.

Who are your clients?

We work with global companies.

How do you deal with the challenges on the labour market in Bulgaria?

It might sound banal, but I will say that we, at LMP-Bulgaria, value our people, their work and trust. This is why we do not experience lack of competent and responsible employees.

How do you motivate your team?

The most important thing for me is to be seen and present, to trust them to suggest solutions and to make independent decisions. I, for my part, support them with my trust.

Plovdiv has become an important industrial cetnre in Bulgaria. What, in your opinion, attracts investors here?

I think that this is due to the fact that Plovdiv is an excellent logistical and industrial centre in Bulgaria. We should also not underestimate the fact that it is a calm and beautiful city with a rich history.

What was the most important lesson in leadership that you learned as the director of LMP-Bulgaria?

To trust, to delegate and to not be affected by my personal preferences.

What do you wish for yourself and LMP in 2023?

To everyone I wish health, and to the world – peace.

Plovdiv, Rogoshko Shose St, Sever 10
