WHERE IN BULGARIA ARE YOU?
This is where Bulgaria ends and Big Wide World begins. Located at the country's southeastern tip, on the shore of a river, this village used to be cut off from both the world and Bulgaria itself during 50 years of Communism.
It was declared a "border zone" and anyone trying to trespass would be shot.
Things have obviously changed now, and tourism is slowly starting to gain momentum, though promises to open up a walkon-only border- crossing checkpoint between Bulgaria and its neighbour across the water have stalled. Bulgaria used to be one of the most secluded lands in Europe and its current borders are dotted with remnants of the installations erected by the regime to prevent citizens from travelling abroad.
