WHERE IS IVANCHO?
This is a popular one making the rounds, obviously in sotto voce, under Communism, but it has recently been brought back to life for reasons that we have been trying to understand for about eight years now.
Boyko Borisov went on a visit to a school to talk about the challenges facing firefighters. Towards the end of his talk, he asked whether the pupils had any questions. Ivancho, the popular Bulgarian jokes character, stood up and said:
"Yes, sir, I have three questions. First, why is everyone in Bulgaria so poor? Second, why do all the prices in Bulgaria go up all the time? And third, why do the citizens of Bulgaria have so few rights?"
Boyko Borisov started perspiring, but just at this time the school bell rang and the pupils were let into a recess.
After the break, they gathered in the schoolroom with Boyko Borisov again. Little Peter raised his hand and said:
"Mr Prime Minister, I have five questions. First, why is everyone in Bulgaria so poor? Second, why do all the prices in Bulgaria go up all the time? Third, why do the citizens of Bulgaria have so few rights? Fourth, why did the school bell ring fifteen minutes before time? And lastly, where is Ivancho?"
