WOODEN SPOON: ORGANIC COSMETICS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Nature has immense potential to heal, inspire and bring beauty to our skin. A Bulgarian brand, Wooden Spoon, is making the most of it
The small, but ambitious company creates cosmetics for babies, children and adults that pamper and nourish the skin, enlivens the soul and spares the environment. Wooden Spoon uses organic certified oils and herb extracts and applies innovative technology to make products that effectively bring youth, health and softness to the skin.
The brand's groundbreaking products have become a staple for thousands of satisfied customers all over the world. Even Robert Jobson, the official correspondent to the British royal family, included Wooden Spoon's baby care series in his book Baby Sussex, published in 2020 for the first birthday of Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex. Wooden Spoon was selected for the book not only because of its excellent products, but also for its strong female leadership. Silviya Pavlova, co-founder, shares more.
What defines the concept of the Wooden Spoon brand? What makes you different from the rest on the market?
"If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin!" Considering that skin is the largest human organ and cosmetics are absorbed into our bloodstream, we wanted to make products to "feed" the skin with the purest possible and genuine natural ingredients. We combine raw and unprocessed organic butter and oils, beeswax and herbal extracts, which effectively help to maintain the skin healthy and rejuvenated. We do not use water and we do not heat the butters over 38°C to avoid the destruction of their beneficial properties.
What are your best winter products?
Winter is a quite challenging season for the skin. The cold drains up the natural hydration of the cells and we see cracked tissue, new wrinkles and micro irritations due to the increased pollution and lack of sun. The care we offer is very simple yet incredibly effective. Winter is the time for nourishing night face serums to pamper the skin and protect it for 24 hours. It is also time for our famous whipped body butters that melt at touch and make a fine film to hold the natural moisture of the skin. Lip balms are a must-have for all ages and gender. We have chosen to rely on formulas rich in organic beeswax, because of its incredible ability to restore the lip zone and to prevent cracks and reddish irritations.
Recommend a Wooden Spoon product as a Christmas gift for him and for her.
Christmas is all about the warm scent of cinnamon and freshly squeezed oranges. Our fluffy and nurturing Christmas butter has always been a great choice to surprise a loved one. When combined with a shower gel with naturally saponified organic oils and a stick of lip balm – you get a perfect winter gift to be enjoyed without moderation.

Where can we buy Wooden Spoon products?
Wooden Spoon has reached 36 countries, mostly sold in organic or small family shops by people who understand the need to offer an honest care for the skin. Our customers and partners read the labels and critically pick what's best on the market. We enjoy one of the highest possible rates of customer loyalty, which is a true success for our efforts.
How did Wooden Spoon get featured in the Baby Sussex book?
Being part of this remarkable book is not just a great honour. It is an inspiration for every small and honest cosmetic company. Now we know that our devotion to offer the purest possible skin care will be recognised and hopefully will help to transform the cosmetic industry towards safer and fully natural products.
The whole process for this project had an incredible one-year journey. From the invitation received and the whole investigation we made to confirm this was indeed a real invitation, to the preparation for the glorious event on 6 May at the Ritz, London for the first birthday of Prince Archie (unfortunately the event was cancelled due to the pandemic).
We tried to understand how a small Bulgarian company could reach the doorsteps of the most prestigious media group. SJH group has produced official publications for The Queen's 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle, the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, Prince Philip's 95th birthday celebration, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy.
The interview was with the Royal Correspondent Robert Jobson, one of the most renowned royal editors with many published books and television broadcasts on the Royal family. He joined Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in all their royal duties and visits. He also accompanied the royal couple during their long stay in Africa together with son Archie.
During the interview, we found out that we have been pointed out to be part of this book while they were on the royal trip to Africa. Later, an investigation team has thoroughly researched what we do and who stands behind the brand. When we passed all the tests (we were not aware of), we received the official invitation.
