Stretch marks, pigmentation, surgery scars, devastation caused by breast cancer treatment: when many women look in the mirror, the only thing they want to do is to erase everything from their skin – and realise that it is next to impossible to do this. Anna Yotova is the professional who can help in this situation. The first medical tattoo artist in Bulgaria skillfully hides cosmetic imperfections and restores the appearance of post-surgery breasts. In her studio, Flawless by Anna, she uses camouflage and inkless tattoos to make women feel well in their skin again.

How the idea of making camouflage and inkless tattoos became your professional mission?

Four years ago I accidentally found these procedures abroad. I was surprised that I had never heard about such a thing in Bulgaria. My first thought was how many people suffering from stretch marks, scars, post-surgery interventions, spots and others could use these procedures to restore their confidence and feeling of being complete.

A thorough research showed that Bulgaria was not an exception – these procedures were virtually unknown in Europe as well.

I am an innovator in my soul, so this discovery made me think. Eventually, I decided to make camouflage and inkless tattoos my profession. After a year of preparation and studying the methods, techniques and pigments, I created Flawless by Anna. Here, I treat not only skin imperfections, but also work with women who have gone through the hard diagnosis of breast cancer. I restore their lost nipples and areolas with the 3D areola technique.

What exactly are camouflage and inkless tattoos – and how are they different?

These two methods are special cosmetic techniques that stand out with their goal and way of execution. Unlike traditional tattoos, which add something beautiful to the skin, they improve the skin's appearance in a subtle, hidden way. The pigments used in the camouflage technique use custom formula to achieve the skin's actual colour. We blend imperfections with the other, healthy skin. This is not a healing process, but masking of certain areas of the skin. The procedure is for people with hyperpigmentation, areola corrections, spots and others. To do it properly, you have to know well which inks to use and how to achieve a lasting, natural effect. I work only with the best ink brands selected to achieve the perfect result. Only my students and I know how to work with the right pigments.

In inkless tattooing we use serums to successfully treat scars and stretch marks. Here, both the serum and the technique are important. The procedure itself has a healing effect and has exceptional results for stretch marks and scars. After the right treatment they start to contract, the skin's relief improves and the marks' colour recovers, blending with the normal, healthy skin. After treatment, about 50-70% of stretch marks disappear and the skin's texture significantly improves.

Both procedures aim at improving the skin's appearance by offering a lasting, non-surgical solution to a range of conditions.

What should we know about these procedures before we decide to try them?

First and foremost, you have to choose a professional who will perform them properly. You have to learn more about their previous work, skills and competencies. I always start with a consultation that aims to define the work protocol and disclose all the needed information about what the client can expect before, during and after the procedure. Everyone is different and it is crucial to discuss everything beforehand – skin colour, the colour of the patch of skin we are going to treat, the approach (camouflage or serums), possible skin diseases and body conditions.

When should we expect to see results?

The results are not immediate, because everyone's body is different and the skin needs time to recover and for the procedure's full effect to become visible. Generally, we can see improvement as early as after the first procedure. Usually, we do 2-4 procedures, but some cases require more visits to the studio. The process is complex, sometimes time-consuming, but effective.

What is the patient's experience when they enter for the first time Flawless by Anna? What happens afterwards?

Patients with diverse problems visit Flawless by Anna, often after doctors and other medical professionals' recommendations or referred by someone who has already gone through the process. For me, everyone who has stepped into my studio should feel calm, understood and safe that they are at the right place. Clients say that the ambiance is cosy and relaxing, that they feel at home at Flawless by Anna. The experience goes beyond aesthetic transformation – it is a profound and emotional journey. It makes my clients feel more confident, inspired and satisfied that they have done something good for themselves, sometimes there are even tears of joy. After the procedure, I always check how they feel. Having the right approach and the best results is crucial for me. I strive to achieve the maximum with everyone who has trusted me. For my clients, this is often a very emotional moment, because the process at Flawless by Anna is more than a full skin transformation – it is a profound and personal victory over their imperfections. I am very, very proud to be the person who has made them feel that way.
