APARTMENT 101: WHEN INTERIORS FIND THEIR SOUL

The studio never tires of reinventing its understanding of functional and aesthetic interiors

Interior trends come and go. Some are playful and ever-changing, perfectly suited to rental properties and public spaces that must stay relevant to attract both inhabitants and business clients. Others, typically homes, call for a more thoughtful approach – one that balances contemporary style with individuality and timelessness, creating designs with the potential to become modern classics.

The team at Apartment 101, a Plovdiv-based studio specialising in interior design solutions, moves effortlessly between both worlds. With extensive experience and a rich portfolio of satisfied individual and corporate clients, they have developed a distinctive philosophy that consistently delivers bespoke, refined interiors tailored to the needs and character of each space and customer. The professionals at Apartment 101 share more.

Eighteen years on the market and a team of five professionals – how has Apartment 101 evolved over the years? What have been the most important lessons you have learned as people, colleagues and professionals?

Over the years, the most valuable thing we have learned is that, regardless of changes, successes or difficulties, humanity and respect are the foundation of everything. We believe that the right attitude – both towards each other and towards our clients – is what makes relationships sustainable and builds long-term trust.

What is the most important thing you need to do as professionals when starting work on a private residential interior?

The most important thing at the beginning of every project is to get a feel for the people for whom we are creating the interior – their habits, interests and sense of aesthetics. We strive to build trust and a friendly relationship, because only then can we create a home that truly reflects their personality and dreams.

And when you work on a public space?

When it comes to public spaces, our approach takes a slightly different direction. It is important for us to research the history of the place and its architecture, to understand very well the client's vision and the specifics of the business that will operate there. The message that a public interior carries must, for us, be inseparably connected to the function and concept of the space. That is what makes it work.

What is your approach when a client owns items with sentimental but not particular aesthetic value, which they insist on including in the interior of their new home?

We believe that there is a suitable place and context for everything. Even objects without notable aesthetic value can be integrated in a way that gives them new meaning and harmony within the space. Ultimately, a home should reflect the people who live in it – their memories, stories, and emotions.

And what if the client is unsure which style to choose?

When a client does not have a clearly defined taste or preference for a particular style, we aim to create an interior with a timeless character. We rely on classic materials, balanced tones and calm colour harmony, avoiding overly strong contrasts. This way, the space remains natural, elegant and enduring over time.

What do you strive to achieve with your interiors?

Beyond personal creative satisfaction, we aim to create spaces that reflect our clients' dreams and way of life. Interiors with a timeless line that remain relevant over time – spaces that "age beautifully" and preserve their harmony and character.

A project that best reveals the principles and philosophy of Apartment 101? The one that represents your signature style?

We leave a part of ourselves in every project. Of course, there are some that are closer to our hearts – usually those where we have built a more special connection with the client. But we believe that the most anticipated and most special project is always the next one – the one ahead of us, which drives us to grow and explore new directions.
