The UFT Plovdiv is already on the European map of education

For 70 years now, the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv has been a standard for tradition in education, ambition in the present and visionary view of the future. With its modern curriculum and technologies, dedicated faculty and staff, and international partnerships, UFT is popular among Bulgarian and foreign students alike. The rector, Prof Plamen Nedelchev Mollov, shares more.

The University of Food Technologies has years of history. What makes it an important educational institution today?

The science of foods has been and will remain important because it is directly connected to people's quality of life and health. In the past couple of years the "perfect storm" of crises (global pandemic, war, climate changes) demonstrated the importance of sustainable food supply chains as an element of national security.

This increased the role of the UFT as a scientific research centre offering innovative solutions for the problems of the food industry connected to production sustainability and its adaptability to climate change, food security and digital transformation.

Which programmes are the most popular among students?

In the past couple of years we have offered some new broad programmes, such as Food Technology and Quality, that provide bigger opportunities for professional realisation. These are among the most popular ones. Traditionally, there is significant interest in programmes in the tourism and HoReCa industry, Computer Systems and Technologies and Industrial Management. This academic year, together with the Medical University of Plovdiv, we started an MA programme in dietetics, which is already enjoying significant interest. We also started the pilot MA programme Technology of Wine and Wine-Based Beverages, which was officially approved by OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine). To our alumni, this prestigious diploma will open the doors of some of the most important companies in the international wine industry.

Which is your main ambition as the university's rector?

Together with my exceptional colleagues, we focused our efforts on making the university a second home for our students, and to provide them with solid professional training, but also with confidence and the bravery to grow. I invested all of my life's experience in opening our Alma Mater Alimentorum to the world by building strategic partnerships with universities and international organisations such as OIV, EMaVe Vinifera (European consortium of viticulture and wine universities), the European Commission's Europa Nostra and others. The UFT already has its place on the European educational map. I believe that we, the people in the field of education and enlightenment, are called to create new trajectories that will be continued by the next generation. I am proud of the young colleagues who are going to take the torch from me. I wish them success all the way forward and up!

Университет по хранителни технологии в Пловдив: Образование с поглед в бъдещето

УХТ вече е на европейската образователна карта

Вече 70 години Университетът по хранителни технологии в Пловдив е еталон за традиция в образованието, амбиция в настоящето и визионерски поглед в бъдещето. Със съвременната си образователна програма и технологии, всеотдайните преподаватели и администрация, и международните партньорства, УХТ е популярен сред българските и чуждестранните студенти. Ректорът проф. Пламен Неделчев Моллов споделя повече.

Университетът по хранителни технологии има дългогодишна история. Кое го прави значима образователна институция днес?

Науката за храните винаги е била и ще бъде актуална, защото е пряко свързана с качеството на живот и здравето на човека. В последните няколко години „перфектната буря“ от кризи (световна пандемия, военен конфликт, климатични промени) показа важността на устойчивите вериги за доставки на храни като елемент на националната сигурност.

Затова нараства и ролята на УХТ като научноизследователски център, предлагащ иновативни решения за проблемите пред хранителния сектор, свързани с устойчивостта на производството и адаптацията му към климатичните промени, продоволствената сигурност и дигиталната трансформация.

Кои са най-предпочитаните от студентите специалности?

През последните години предложихме няколко нови широкопрофилни специалности, като „Технология и качество на храните“, които осигуряват по-големи възможности за професионална реализация. Тези специалности са сред най-предпочитаните. Традиционно висок интерес има към специалностите от областта на туризма и хорека сектора, „Компютърни системи и технологии“ и "Индустриален мениджмънт“. От тази учебна година, съвместно с МУ-Пловдив, стартираме магистърско обучение по специалност „Диететика“, за която вече има сериозен интерес. Стартира и пилотната магистърска програма „Технология на виното и напитките на основа вино“, одобрена от OIV (Международната организация по лозата и виното). Тази престижна диплома ще отвори за нашите възпитаници вратите на най-сериозните компании от винарската индустрия по света.

Коя е основната Ви амбиция като ректор на университета?

Заедно с моите изключителни колеги фокусирахме усилията си върху това да превърнем университета във втори дом за нашите студенти и да им дадем солидна професионална подготовка, но и самочувствие и смелост да се развиват. Вложих целия си житейски опит в отваряне на нашата Alma Mater Alimentorum към света чрез изграждане на стратегически партньорства с университети и международни организации като OIV, EMaVe Vinifera (Европейски консорциум на винарските университети), Europa Nostra към Европейската комисия и други. УХТ вече има своето място на европейската образователна карта. Вярвам, че ние, работещите в сферата на образованието и духовността, сме призвани да създаваме нови траектории, които да бъдат продължени от следващата генерация. Гордея се с младите колеги, които ще поемат щафетата от мен. Пожелавам им успешен път напред и нагоре!
