LIVING ON AUTOPILOT: WHEN SUCCESS DOESN'T FEEL LIKE SUCCESS

Organised, orderly, well-maintained, balancing work and personal life: successful people in high positions are the ideal we all strive for. But sometimes, beneath the smooth surface of a life in control, undercurrents are stirring. A successful person cannot enjoy their own success. They are drowning – and no one notices.

Marina Dimitrova is a professional who can not only recognise the signs of anxiety and dissatisfaction behind a perfect facade, but also guide us toward the best way to overcome them. By combining proven Western therapeutic practices with Eastern philosophy and a holistic approach to mental and physical well-being, she opens the door to calm and personal fulfilment. With her guidance, we can become leaders not only of companies and teams, but also of our inner self – and finally enjoy the success we deserve.

You work with high-performing individuals who seemingly "have it all," yet they seek you out to restore clarity and energy. Why is that?

Many of the people I work with achieve, perform, and give a lot – often at the cost of themselves. From the outside, everything looks right. But inside, something feels off. When we lose the ability to listen inward, we inevitably shift into autopilot – a state where external demands dictate our daily reality.

In my work, based on habit change, I've seen that external success doesn't always reflect our inner state. We can build a brilliant career and still lose the connection with how we actually feel. My role is to help them bridge that gap.

As a certified health and life coach, your approach seems to combine practical tools with deeper inner work. How does that help people move out of autopilot and reconnect with themselves more consciously?

I believe that to truly support people at a high level, we need to integrate depth, not just strategy.

At the core of my work is the meeting point between Western, science-based approaches to behavior and underlying patterns, and Eastern philosophies of presence and inner balance.

I am currently participating in a one-year professional training in Compassionate Inquiry, an approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté. It is already affecting the way I listen, ask questions, and support my clients, as I continue to deepen my understanding. This approach invites us to look beneath the surface of our professional "masks" and gently explore the patterns that drive stress, pressure, or exhaustion – often shaped by experiences and strategies developed earlier in life.

When combined with a health-focused mindset, we begin to see wellbeing not just as physical, but as a state of awareness, resilience, and conscious choice.

In a world that often rewards speed, control, and constant reaction, what can Eastern philosophy teach us about leadership and decision-making?

My training in the Shaolin Temple Europe Self-Mastery program was a deeply transformative experience for me. It adds a layer of discipline, presence, and inner focus to my coaching approach.

In both leadership and life, the greatest challenge is mastering the mind.

We don't experience life as it is, but as we focus on it. When our focus is drawn to what's missing, it becomes our emotional reality – tension, anxiety, the sense that nothing is ever enough.

The same applies to time. If we live in the past, we remain there. If we live in the future, we often live in pressure and expectation. The present is where clarity and choice begin.

This is highly relevant in leadership. I support my clients in creating that "pause" – a grounded stillness amidst the chaos – so they can make decisions from a place of strength, not habit.

For someone caught in the speed and demands of everyday life, what does this inner shift actually look like in practice?

It begins with awareness. Noticing what is happening within you as it happens – before reacting automatically.

Our habits can either run on autopilot or be consciously shaped – especially in the way we relate to our energy, our body, and the rhythms of daily life – including how we nourish, move, and restore ourselves.

When you create a pause and begin to see these patterns in real time, you regain choice. And that is where change begins – not through force, but through awareness. Often, these reactions are not random – they are patterns we've developed over time and continue to follow.

Once we become aware of them, they no longer drive us – we can choose consciously.

For someone reading this who feels that "something is off" despite their success, what is the first step?

The first step is to stop forcing and start noticing. If you are ready to stop surviving your success and start leading your life with authentic energy, the shift can begin with a single, honest conversation.
