Attorney-at-law Nadezhda Svinarova-Petrova, the founding lawyer of NSP Avocats, embodies the history and philosophy of her law firm
She graduated in law from two of France’s most respected institutions, Panthéon-Assas Paris 2 and Paris Cité (René Descartes). She became a member of the Paris Bar in 2012 and was registered in 2015 in the Register of Foreign Lawyers at the Higher Council of the Bar in Bulgaria. After gaining valuable experience in established law firms, in 2016 she founded her own practice, NSP Avocats, as a bridge between Bulgaria and France for individuals and businesses looking to live and operate between the two countries. The firm works in French, English, Spanish and Bulgarian.
How did you manage to build a team that serves equally well French people in Bulgaria and Bulgarians in France?
This is, in many ways, our own story. Our firm was built around a genuine connection between France and Bulgaria. All members of our team studied law in Paris and worked in France before continuing their professional path in Bulgaria. Because of our personal and professional journeys, we have all lived between France and Bulgaria, which gives us a very concrete understanding of both countries. This shared background allows us to understand not only the legal systems of both countries, but also the mindset, expectations and concerns of clients on each side. We know how important it is to feel understood when building a project abroad, and this human dimension is at the heart of our work.
What are the most common risks that French people who want to invest in Bulgaria face?
Many of these risks are not unique to Bulgaria. They are the kind of challenges that often arise when doing business or investing in a foreign country. Language barriers can create misunderstandings, local legal rules may be unfamiliar, and cultural differences can lead to false assumptions. Another challenge today is that clients are exposed to a huge amount of information, sometimes contradictory, which may give them a false sense of confidence. AI is a powerful tool, but it needs professional guidance. Used without the right legal and practical framework, it can lead to errors.
How does your firm help them to successfully deal with them?
We see ourselves as a true partner for our clients. Our role is not limited to reviewing documents or answering legal questions. We provide tailor-made support, adapted to each client's project, objectives and level of familiarity with Bulgaria. We help them understand the local environment, anticipate risks, structure their investment or business properly and move forward with confidence. For us, good legal support means combining technical precision with a personal and practical approach.
