When Global Jobs began offering Bulgarian employers the option to hire third-country workers in 2017, the service was still a novelty on the local labour market. By 2026, the practice has become increasingly common, and Global Jobs has earned a well-deserved reputation as a trusted partner that understands the market, provides an individual approach to each client and ensures that both companies and foreign workers are satisfied. The company’s founders, Milena Angelova and Mitko Shterev, share more.

How did Global Jobs become a true expert in hiring workers from third countries for the Bulgarian market?

We founded the company in 2017 with a clear goal: to bridge the gap between Bulgarian businesses and qualified personnel from non-EU countries. For nine years now, we have shown that success lies not in volume but in precision at every stage. Each year, around 2,000 new workers enter the country through us. Today we serve over 600 clients across a broad range of sectors – from metallurgy and wood processing to hospitality, catering, and healthcare. Some of our clients have been with us from the very beginning, since 2017.

In 2027, we will mark our 10th anniversary with a celebration for all our loyal clients and partners.

From day one, Global Jobs Ltd. has operated with valid licences from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, and since 2024 our trademark has been registered across the entire EU. We have our own offices in Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, India, and Dubai – a physical presence that guarantees quality. We work with candidates from over 20 countries and are the only Bulgarian agency licensed by POLO Budapest for direct recruitment from the Philippines.

Has Bulgaria's reputation as a destination for labour migration changed in recent years?

Yes, and the change has been significant. Bulgaria is no longer perceived as just a transit country – more and more qualified people are choosing long-term settlement here. The Bulgarian economy offers stable employment in metallurgy, wood processing, the chemical and food industries, hospitality, catering, and healthcare. The cost of living is considerably lower than in Western Europe, which makes real disposable income competitive. However, procedures under the Foreign Nationals Act remain cumbersome, and we compete directly with Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Slovakia, Lithuania and other highly aggressive markets.

This is precisely why a unified ethical standard is needed.

Why do your international partners choose to work with you?

Because we are more than just an intermediary – we are a partner who stands openly, with both name and face, before every client and candidate. Unfortunately, fraud is all too common in our industry. We chose the opposite approach: full transparency. Every partner knows that candidates receive clear information before they depart and are not abandoned after they arrive in Bulgaria. We stay in personal contact with every worker throughout their entire stay. We are members of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria, or KRIB, the National Tourism Board, and FederComTur Eastern Europe. We have no minimum order – we take a tailored approach with every client.

What are the most common misconceptions about workers from third countries in Bulgaria?

The biggest misconception is that they are "cheap labour." This notion is fundamentally wrong – these people do not come here for lower pay; they fill positions for which there are simply no local candidates.

The second misconception is that they are unskilled – among them are specialists with years of industry experience.

The third is that integrating them is too difficult. With minimal, well-targeted support from the employer, these people adapt quickly and often stay longer than local staff.

The fourth is that bringing in foreign workers harms the labour market – the truth is that companies that hire internationally expand their operations and create new jobs for everyone.

What would you say to an employer who is still unsure about hiring workers from third countries?

We would tell them: time is not on your side. Bulgaria's labour shortage is a structural problem, and it is only getting worse with each passing year. The demographic trends are relentless, and the competition for talent is already global – Hungary, Poland, Croatia and others are actively pursuing the very same people you need. This is not about replacing your Bulgarian employees – on the contrary, it is about saving your business from stagnation and giving your existing team the chance to grow. In our experience, we have dozens of companies that were hesitant just a few years ago and today cannot imagine operating without their international workforce. The first step is trusting an experienced partner – because successful recruitment requires real knowledge of the law and a personalised approach.

What is the single most important thing an employer must do so that step is successful?

Choosing the right partner is everything. Work with a company that has genuine experience and a real presence in the countries of origin – its own offices and a team on the ground. Demand transparency at every stage. Check whether the agency is properly licensed, whether it actually has an office, whether it genuinely knows the law.

The second key factor is your own internal preparation: designate someone responsible for onboarding, prepare your existing team for a multicultural workplace, and provide basic language training from day one. Those first few months of investment pay off many times over in loyalty, productivity and long-term stability. And stay open – the companies that embrace their international team as part of the family are the ones that truly thrive. We have candidates who have started families here, who have had children here. Some clients even joke that along with workers, we import the occasional son-in-law or daughter-in-law.
